1960's

Just for the record, the reason behind "The London Buzz" using the 60's as a starting block, is simply because it was a moment in time that actually began in the late 50's and tapered away towards the mid 70's. It was a time of affection for not all of the worlds young people, but it was for so many of the young of the western world. It was such a monumental time of change, that for those of us that were there at the time, it was almost impossible to take in the full significance of what is now referred to as the "First Movement". At last the world had become a small place - it was the biggest break with conditioned conformity by young people to ever take place. It was a time when creativity went into another dimension, and class barriers disintegrated in the backwash of the upwardly mobile creative youth, who assertively moved above their so called "stations" on the crest of a wave of public opinion and applause.

The Pill brought about sexual liberation, and opened the door to more acceptance and understanding.

It was the first time fashion went from the street to the catwalk.

But most important - the conclusion to it all erupted in the mid 60's in an explosion of cosmic proportions - "Flower Power" was born in a blaze of psychedelic colour, a celebration of the forthcoming Age of Aquarius (2003) - symbolizing One World Consciousness - the beginning of the unfoldment of peace and understanding that was, and is predicted to last for a thousand years.

Never before had so many young people Not risen up in states of excitement to the bugle call to the war in Vietnam. For the first time through awareness, so many young people realised that the most important thing on this planet is to have life in a human body, and refused to be nourishment to the propaganda-mongers and the generators of gross energy.

A powerful Peace statement was being made with something as beautiful and delicate as a flower.

The American National Guard was brought out to quell a non-violent peace demo, only to have flowers placed into the barrels of their guns - it was a demo on love - no doubt more of the National Guard would have smiled and laughed at the experience, had they not perhaps been so alienated by military conditioning.

The slogans of the day were: "Make Love not War", and "Flower Power"- they were a threat to nobody except perhaps the conscience of a nation. The media throughout the world portrayed the message, bringing about American embassy demo's throughout the more free world.

It was the Power of the Flower, that made the statement which still resonates now,
a statement that went beyond "labeled conditioning". It was not violently against violence!

All this rocked the very foundation of the establishment. This still did not stop the war in Vietnam, but the nations heart was no longer in it. As the momentum of pride and greed slowly petered out, so America awaited the opportunity, (which was so long in coming), and in the backwash of death, destruction, pain and suffering on both sides, with down cast eyes, withdrew from Vietnam.
